Sandy Nelson RDH, BS has been practicing dental hygiene since graduation from OHSU in 1967. She is a past president of the Southern Oregon Dental Hygiene component. She has belonged to the ADHA since 1967. In 2000 she started working in Limited Access Permit settings. She now delivers dental hygiene care in over 60 facilities. She works at the Portland VA medical center delivering dental hygiene services. She is a frequent speaker delivering in-service training to registered nurses and other staff members to fulfill their state and federal requirements for oral health skills for residents of care facilities. She spoke at the Oregon State Denturist Association meeting, October 2003. She has been featured in the Dr Dentistry magazine introducing the LAP hygienist and the challenges of oral care in long term care facilities. The Quality Provider, newsletter of the Oregon Health Care Association, featured her services in the Nov/Dec. 2002 issue. She presented the class “How to use the Limited Access Permit” at the OHSU in March 2003. She is a member of the Oregon Health Care Association and the Metropolitan Senior Network. She is a 2003 board member of Geriatric Dentistry.
